The transition to a climate-neutral ecosystem is one of the most urgent and complex challenges of our time. To tackle it, we need to fundamentally rethink the way we operate in all sectors of society, from industry to education, from research to innovation.
In this scenario, universities - and in particular those active in the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) - play a crucial role in shaping the skills needed to drive change. Promoting green skills among students and educators means in fact contributing concretely to building a sustainable, resilient and climate-neutral economy.
Project Objectives
SOFTEN project objectives
The Erasmus+ Project SOFTEN was created with the aim of supporting this transformation process through the development of so-called green soft skills, i.e. transversal skills related to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
In particular, SOFTEN aims to
- developing green skills in university students;
- enhancing professional development of STEM educators through innovative teaching methodologies;
- strengthening collaboration between universities and green industry;
- promoting new ways of teaching that integrate sustainability, soft skills and interdisciplinary approaches.
The interconnection between academia and sustainable industry is indeed a key lever to accelerate the transition to a more equitable and climate neutral future.
METID's role in the project
A MOOC on green soft skills
Within the framework of the Erasmus+ SOFTEN project, METID contributed to the realisation of the MOOC “Green Soft Skills for transitioning towards a Sustainable Future”.”.
The course explores the meaning of green soft skills and their central role in the transition towards a sustainable future. These skills include environmental awareness, sustainable decision-making and ethical leadership, and are crucial in addressing today's complex environmental challenges.
The MOOC provides practical strategies and targeted content to support educators in integrating green soft skills into their teaching, with a focus on working in multicultural teams and multidisciplinary, ethical decision-making, reflection on one's own learning and effective communication.
The content was developed by the project partners and the video lessons were realised using an artificial intelligence-based video production service through virtual avatars.
The MOOC is one of the outputs of the Erasmus+ SOFTEN project (No. 2022-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000085725).
Green Soft Skills for transitioning towards a Sustainable Future
Are you curious about what green soft skills are and why they are at the heart of the transition to a sustainable future? Would you like to help your students develop these essential skills?
The MOOC offers practical strategies and engaging content designed to provide educators with the tools they need to effectively teach green soft skills. Participants will gain insights on how to work in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams, make ethical decisions, reflect on their own learning and communicate effectively, clearly and comprehensibly to their target audience.
