La OnLine Degree (IOL) is the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering in online mode offered by the Politecnico di Milano, designed to enable the award of a first-level university degree with a flexible teaching model compatible with professional or personal commitments.
The online degree course was the first in Italy managed entirely at a distance, which has been running since the 2000/2001 academic year, and provides for the achievement of 180 university credits (CFU), equivalent to those of face-to-face courses.
The route is perfectly equivalent to the traditional course offered by the Politecnico: it is held by the University's teaching staff and includes the same study subjects, examinations and awards as the “in-person” degree”.
In addition, the OnLine Degree is the’the only online degree course accredited CampusOne by CRUI-Conference of Italian University Rectors, This testifies to the quality and validity of the training course.
Students are placed in a virtual classroom and followed by a reference tutor. Teaching is based on:
- lectures, explanations, discussions with teachers and tutors, student discussions and in-progress tests conducted entirely online;
- a personalised agenda with information on lessons, study materials and test dates;
- teaching materials always available, including videos of lectures, presentations, documents and tests;
- evening live sessions, programmed to facilitate working students, with the possibility of real-time interaction and recording for later viewing;
- continuous communication with teachers and peers via dedicated forums.
This structure allows students to follow activities from any place, fostering an active and interactive learning experience.
The in itinere tests are conducted online with tests, exercises or project work. The final examinations are held in presence on set dates, guaranteeing the overall educational value of the degree. Evaluation follows criteria equivalent to those of face-to-face courses.
