The European Erasmus+ Project ECCOE - European Credit Clearinghouse for Opening up Education The main objective was to facilitate the adoption and ownership of open, online and flexible higher education.
In line with this overall objective, ECCOE aimed to increase confidence in technology-enabled credentials on the part of students, higher education institutions (HEIs) and employers by promoting a recognition system that fosters mobility in the European Higher Education Area.
In the course of the project, ECCOE developed a number of activities and operational outputs, including:
- the development of quality descriptors for credentials related to courses, modules, MOOCs and competence groups;
- the creation and validation of a Model Credit Recognition Agreement, available in six languages (DE, EN, FR, IT, LT, NL);
- the creation of an online catalogue with over 60 disciplinary and transversal modules that passed the selection criteria for inter-institutional recognition;
- the design of a system for technology-enabled digital credentials;
- preparing the ground for wider adoption through the ECCOE-System network and pilot activities, by producing and disseminating the necessary supporting documentation to institutional stakeholders.
Through the development and dissemination of operational tools such as descriptors and agreement templates, ECCOE has supported interested institutions in adopting digital credential recognition processes, helping to make these processes reliable for students, universities and employers.
